Gardiflora now on Google Play

It's here, you can now download Gardiflora from the Google Play Store. Everything you need to organise your garden and bring more life to it, right in your pocket.

Track your plants, keep up with seasonal tasks, check your eco-score, it's all in there. And as always: in Dutch, French, German and English, with all plant names in your language.

New: your garden's eco-score

Gardiflora now gives your garden an eco-score, an indication of how well your garden does in terms of biodiversity. From "Bare patch" to "Garden of Eden", your rank grows with your garden, built on five criteria: habitat value, pollination, species richness, soil health and ecological risks.

You can expand each criterion to see which plants contribute, and you get suggestions to improve your garden, like adding a native shrub or replacing an invasive plant.

The eco-score is still a work in progress, not all plants have a score yet, and the weighting is still being refined. But the approach is right: you get feedback that helps you make better choices. The eco-score is free. Add your plants and see how your garden is doing.

The beta ends on 21 March

On 21 March, the first day of astronomical spring, we're closing the beta phase. From that point on, the Bloom subscription will be activated for premium features. The app itself stays available to everyone.

Without a subscription you can still manage your gardens and plants, check the eco-score, and (to a limited extent) identify plants by photo. With Bloom you also get full task management, the seasonal calendar, reminders, detailed task descriptions, and unlimited plant identification.

To all pilot users: thank you, sincerely. You tested the app extensively, reported bugs, suggested ideas and gave honest feedback. That has genuinely made Gardiflora better. The time and effort you put in is not something we take for granted, and we appreciate it enormously.

Partnership with the Tuinrangers

Have you heard of the Tuinrangers? In municipalities that participate in the project, you can request a free garden consultation. A volunteer will visit your garden and give you personal advice on how to bring more nature into it. Think of a nest box in the right spot, a flower border for wild bees, or a hedge where hedgehogs can shelter. They've already visited more than 10,000 gardens across Flanders.

I'm a Tuinrangers volunteer myself, and recently I visited Elisa to explore how Gardiflora and the Tuinrangers can bring more life to Flemish gardens together. Gardiflora helps you organise your garden and shows you which tasks to do when, and how to work with nature rather than against it. The Tuinrangers help you get started with on-site advice.

Seasonal tip: get your garden ready for early spring

Early March is a good time to do a few small things that will make a big difference later:

Leave dead stems standing for now, insects shelter in them and they're food for tits and other garden birds.
Hang up a nest box if you haven't already, birds are already looking for a spot.
Put a shallow dish of water outside with some pebbles in it. The first wild bees are already here, and they need water as well as nectar. The pebbles give them a safe place to land.
